WBC 미-일 준결승에 대한 (극소수) 미국인들의 반응

아, 정말 잘 했는데 아쉽게 졌네요.
허전한 마음을 달래기 위해 얼마전 espn 게시판에서 봤던 코멘트나 몇 개 해석해서 올립니다.

일본에게 밀리는 미국에 대해서, 그리고 한국에게 밀리는 베네주엘라 팀에 대해서 해설자이자 전 mlb 2루수였던 Joe Morgan은 계속해서 메이저리거들이 WBC에서 활약하지 못하는 이유를 설명했었죠. 허구연, 박노준 해설위원 만큼은 아니지만, 미국 네티즌들도 불만이 많더군요.

그런데 너무 말이 길어서, 흥미로운 몇 개만 가져와야 했어요. 2ch 처럼 짧게 말해주면 고맙겠지만...-_-;

Team Korea ;
powerful but not as powerful as Team USA, precise but not as precise as Team Japan..... but neither Team USA nor Japan is as powerful AND precise as Team Korea.

한국 팀:
파워 넘치지만, 미국 팀만큼 파워넘치지는 않고, 정교하지만 일본만큼 정교하지는 않다. 그러나 일본과 미국 그 어느 팀도 한국 팀의 파워와 정교함은 가지고 있지 않다.

Nationalists like Joe Morgan just cannot admit that US baseball cannot compete against other countries. There is no excuse for US teams to play that poorly. First, they play at home. Second, they get most of the close calls, and third (and most importantly) they don't have to suffer through jetlags like Koreans or Japanese do. Don't forget that other countries really dedicate themselves to serve their countries, yet we don't see Americans do the same. Look at their broadcasters: one is busy bashing WBC (Morgan), and one is saying he won't play even if called (Hershiser).

I expect Japan to beat US and it will be Korea vs. Japan for WBC Finals.

Joe Morgan같은 국수주의자는 미국 야구가 다른 팀들과 경쟁할 수 없다는 사실을 받아들이기 힘들어 하지. 미국 선수들이 이따위로 플레이 하는 것에는 어떤 핑계도 없어. 첫째, 그들은 홈에서 경기하고 있어. 둘째, 심판의 도움을 받았고, 셋째(그리고 가장 중요하게) 한국이나 일본팀처럼 시차적응에 시달릴 필요가 없었거든. 다른 나라선수들이 자신의 나라를 위해서 최선을 다한 다는 것을 잊지마. 그런데 미국 사람들은 안 그런 것 같아. 방송하는 사람들 좀 봐, 한 사람은 (Joe Morgan)은 WBC를 까느라 바쁘고, 다른 하나는(허샤이저) 불러도 경기에 참석하지 않겠다고 떠들지.

나는 일본이 미국을 꺾고 결승에서 한국과 일본의 경기를 했으면 좋겠어.

God, I'm getting so tired of all this complaining from ESPN. MLB players aren't supposed to be playing yet it's pre-season and they're not in shape and that's why they're not as good as you'd expect and whinge whinge whine whine WBC sucks. Can I just point out that the USA wasn't the only team with stumbling blocks on the way here?
First, really, stop whinging that this isn't your FINEST, because GUESS WHAT, this isn't Korea or Japan's finest either (Korean team's player age average: 26.4). Quite a few of Asia's best aren't here: Chan-ho Park (Phillies, consolidating place in team), best slugger Seung-yeop Lee (Yomiuri Giants, recovering nicely from thumb injury), Cha-seung Baek (San Diego Padres), iconic short-stop Jin-man Park (Samsung Lions, out from elbow injury), Byung-hyun Kim (formerly of the Red Sox, Rockies...LOST HIS PASSPORT), Matsui Hideki (Yankees), Uehara Koji (Baltimore)....Plus, Korea's ONE MLB player Shin-soo Choo (Cleveland Indians) was only permitted by Cleveland to play as a DH, until the Venezuela game.
I think both Japan and Korea have proven that it doesn't always take your finest to be fine.
Secondly, hey, guys, GUESS WHAT. Korea and Japan are in spring training too! Yeah, sure, they're already playing as though the season's in full swing, but once they return back home to their teams they're going to have to tough out another whole season. Just like the USA.

MLB선수들은 시즌 전이기 때문에 플레이 할 수 없고, 그들은 몸을 만들지 못했고, 그래서 우리가 기대하는 만큼 못하는 것이고, 그래서 칭얼 칭얼 징징 징징 망할 WBC라고? 미국 팀 혼자만 이런 문제에 봉착한 건 아니라는 거 알아? 첫째, 제발 이게 최상의 모습이라고 칭얼 거리는 것 좀 그만둬, 왜냐면, 한국 팀이나 일본 팀도 최상의 컨디션이 아니거든. (한국 팀의 평균 연령은 26.4살이라고) 아시아 최고라 할 수 있는 선수가 없다고. 예를 들면 박찬호, 이승엽, 백차승, 최고 우격수인 박진만, 김병현 (여.권.을.잃.어.버.렸.다.고), 히데키 마츠이, 코지 우헤하라들이 참석을 못했어. 게다가 한국에는 오.직.한.명.의 메이저리거 추신수만이 베네주엘라의 게임까지만 경기에 참석하는 것을 허락 받았고.
둘째, 한국과 일본도 스프링 캠프 중이라고! 그들이 이미 절정의 컨디션으로 플레이하고 있지만, 귀국하고 나면 또다시 힘든 전체 시즌을 견뎌내야 해. 미국이랑 똑같다고!

Oh, and ESPN ANNOUNCERS YOU ####, the reason the Korean coach Kim stays in the dugout for most of the game and doesn't ever move too much is because he had a severe stroke a couple years back and now walks with a limp. He doesn't let on too much but it's pretty painful for him to walk. The only reason he took on the WBC team coach job was because NONE of the other coaches would take it ("It's spring training, I need to be with my team whinge whinge") and KBO basically forced it on him.

So please, Team USA, stop whining. You guys actually have it pretty easy by comparison.

ESPN 아나운서, 이눔시퀴, 한국 감독인 김인식이 게임 대부분을 덕아웃에 머물고, 움직임이 거의 없는 것은 몇년 전에 중풍을 맞아서 절뚝거리기 때문이야. 김감독이 티는 안 내지만 그 사람 걷는 거 매우 힘들어 한다고. 그 사람이 WBC 팀의 수장을 맡고 있는 까닭은 아무도 감독직을 수락하려 하지 않았기 때문이야. (스프링 훈련을 해야해서 우리 팀과 함께 해야 한다 왱알왱알), 게다가 KBO의 강압도 있었고.

그러니까 제발, 미국 팀아, 칭얼 거리지 좀 말아라. 이런 사정과 비교하면 너희는 편했다고.

The U.S.'s best shot at beating Japan was tonight and this matchup....and they still get destroyed. Daisuke is probably Japan's worst starting pitcher. Hisashi Iwakuma is by far their best. Yu Darvish is also better than Daisuke.

On another note...did the U.S. actually do better than last time? The U.S. lost five times this time, and against inferior competition. The U.S. "for some reason" changed the pool format of who they have to play to reach the semifinals. Last time they had to be better than South Korea and Japan but were clearly outmatched and didn't advance to the semifinals. The only reason they advanced this year is because they switched the pool format so now they have to go through Netherlands, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. If they were in the same pool as Korea and Japan this year would they have made it through? I mean, they had their best chance to beat Japan in a single game today with Japan's worst starting pitcher, and they still got killed...

미국은 일본에 회심의 일격을 가했지만 처참하게 졌어. 다이스케는 아마 일본 최악의 선발투수 일거야, 히사시 이와쿠마가 훨씬 낫고, 달빗슈도 다이스케 보다 훌륭하다고.

그리고 또 하나, 정말 미국이 저번보다 잘하는 걸까? 미국은 이번에 다섯 경기를 못하는 상대에게 졌어. 미국은 준결승에 올라가기 위해서 "어떤 이유로" 조 선정 방식을 바꿨어. 저번에는 한국과 일본보다 잘한다고 봤는데 알고보니 한국과 일본이 더 잘했고, 결국 준결승전에 진출하지 못했지. 올해 준결승에 오르게 된 것은 조 선정 방식을 바꿔서, 네덜란드나 베네주엘라, 그리고 푸에르토 리코랑 싸웠거든. 만약에 한국이나 일본과 같은 조였다면 준결승전에 진출할 수 있었을까? 내 말은, 오늘 경기에서 일본의 최악의 선발투수를 상대로 일본을 이길 수 있는 유일한 기회였는데, 오히려 학살당했다고. -_-;

If we can't get the best players, coaches and manager, and have to worry about interfering with spring training so much, why even bother participating in this event?

It seems like all the other national teams care about WBC except USA.
It's just too painful to watch team USA play.
All the players and manager just don't take it seriously maybe except Jimmy Rollins.
I couldn't believe when I read an article saying Davey said that he would have no problem forfeiting a game.
It's simply a let-down for USA baseball fans.

We don't want to see team USA when they themselves don't want to compete.
Stop making excuses.
Just stop playing!!!
That'll solve all the problem with spring training, injuries, blah blah...

Even if we don't play, everyone knows that we're still #1 in the world right?

우리가 최고의 선수, 감독, 코치를 선임할 수 없었다면, 그리고 스프링 캠프를 그렇게 걱정해야 했다면 도대체 왜 WBC에 참가하는 거야?

미국 팀을 제외하고 모든 팀이 WBC에 신경 쓰는 것 같아.
미국 팀의 경기를 보는 것은 너무 괴롭다고.
Jimmy Rollins를 제외한 모든 선수들과 감독은 진지하게 경기하는 것 같지 않아.
Davey가 몰수패를 당해도 상관하지 않겠다는 기사를 보고 충격 받았다고.
이거 정말 미국 야구 팬을 실망시켰다고.

미국 팀이 경쟁하려 하지 않는 모습을 보고 싶지 않다고.
핑계 고만 대고
다 때려치우라고
그러면 스프링 훈련이라던가, 부상이라던가 왱알왱알하는 문제들을 다 해결할 수 있을거야.

우리가 경기 안 해도, 모든 사람들이 우리가 세계 최고라는 거 알거니까. 그렇지?

오랜만에 TV로 본 우리 선수들 참 멋졌어요. 
당신들이 이렇게 잘 해주니, 미국에 와서까지 한국 야구만 챙겨보는 것에 대해 다시 한번 정당화 할 수 있었어요. 흐흐
